I found this recipe online and I had to try it out. A moist, delicious, and most importantly endlessly creative cake with only 3 ingredients? It had to be a scam.

The person who posted this recipe claims she got it from an Amish woman, which means that you don’t need any fancy mixers to prepare it. So I sent my mother out to get the 3 ingredients and, curious to see if it would actually make something, she obliged. The 3 ingredients are:

  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 box cake mix (any flavor)
  • 1 can pie filling (any flavor)

I chose yellow cake mix and peach pie filling, but you can actually choose, for example, yellow cake mix and cherry pie filling and the cake will come out pink! Check it out:

You can also choose blueberry pie filling and the cake comes out blue or chocolate cake mix and the cake comes out, well, chocolate.

The recipe claims that the cake comes out so moist and so delicious that you don’t even need to frost it.

So, then, the recipe says you put the three ingredients into a bowl, mix them well, and bake for 35 minutes at 350 degrees. The whole thing from prep to clean-up took me 10 minutes. Pretty awesome if the cake comes out well.

When I took the cake out of the oven, it looked like this:

It’s freaking delicious! It’s got almost a pudding-cake kind of consistency, lighter than pound cake. It’s spotted on the inside with little pieces of peaches. The edges are crispy, like you would get on brownies.

Amazing. The cost of the ingredients is under $6 and the cook time from prep to clean-up can be as little as 10 minutes. Also, you can combine cake mix and pie filling flavors to make tons of different creative cakes. Some interesting cakes to try in the future:

  1. I made it with a yellow cake and Comstock Apple pie filling. I made a glaze with powdered sugar, butter, milk and vanilla. It was delicious. I made it a bundt cake pan.

  2. Made this with the 16 oz. Pumpkin canned mix and 1Yellow cake mix no eggs were used and I baked it in a Bundt pan with a Powdered sugar glaze sprinkled with Cinn.&Sugar on top. Was really awesome baked acording to the cake mix box bundt baking directions. Will be making this for Valentines Surprises!

  3. Yellow cake mix, cherry pie filling and a can of diced drained pears. Add a little cinnamon to the batter and this can be cooked in an oven or in a crockpot. Delicious!

  4. Made white cake and pumpkin pie filling and chocolate cake with cherry pie filling, both was really good. I took them to a church dinner and everyone loved them , we added just a touch of whipped cream as topping.

      • Oh, I made the spice cake with apple pie filling just yesterday and it’s WONDERFUL. We love it. It’s nice and moist.

    • I too used a ‘Spice’ cake & apple pie filling, I put a crumble topping on mine too, DELISH!!! I had such a great time making this, typically when I bake it’s not this entertaining…..First, I must tell you I was thrilled to find this Very EASY, ‘Are You Kidding Me’ cake recipe, (perfect name…..).

      I became so excited when I broke my eggs I had a double yolker! Yes, that’s happened to me before, I love baking & have been doing it for many years! So when I saw the the double yolk I ran with it out to show my husband, upon returning to the kitchen, I had to mess with him, I just couldn’t resist! I screamed out to him, ‘Oh my gosh, your not going to believe this, there’s a little chicks head in here’! He yells back, ‘No, I don’t want to see it’, I laughed so hard.

      When I tried to tell him the truth & show him, let’s just say, he wasn’t going for it! He doesn’t know much about cooking & especially baking. Bawhahaha, that was awesome to have an easy, Delicious recipe that smelled Amazing too & entertainment. The only thing that beat that was tasting it! Lol!

    • I have done Angel Food cake with a can of crushed pineapple, juice and all. No eggs. Just make sure it’s a “just add water” cake mix. Yum

  5. Allergic to eggs so tried this with chocolate cake, cherry pie filling and 1/2 cup buttermilk. Came out great and was still moist 3 days later when we finished it up. Can’t wait to try other combinations.

  6. I made this cake for our Friday Night Bible Study meeting and it was a hit. I added a light glaze but I probably could of done without it. The cake was moist, simple and yummy.
    I’m going to try the spice cake & pumpkin puree next.

  7. sounds good…here’s where I find issue… bake for 35 minutes..and yet…”The whole thing from prep to clean up took about 10 minutes”. I think I understand but the whole thing sounds as if it includes the bake time….just saying

  8. I used a sugar free yellow cake mix and cherry pie filling. My husband is a diabetic, so I had to use the sugar free cake mix. The cake turned our very good!! We loved it.

    • What brand sugar free cake mix did you buy? I too am a diabetic and certainly can use sugar free everything~Thanks in advance

  9. Tried Double Chocolate Fudge cake mix with Cherry Pie filling and when it was hot out of the oven sprinkled chocolate chips over the top. Um….YUM! Making Lemon cake with Blueberry Pie Filling tomorrow evening for a gathering and thinking about sprinkling powdered sugar once it cools and maybe a super thin drizzle of lemon curd and condensed milk?

    • I made the double chocolate fudge cake mix and used the cherry pie filling, but kept testing it with a sharp knife to see when it was done. It actually took 17 minutes at 350 degrees in my oven to test dry inside. I’m wondering by reading other comments, is this cake really supposed to test dry since it has the pie filling included?

  10. My favs are yellow/peaches with vanilla icing; white/cherries with cream cheese frosting; spice/apples with coconut/pecan frosting. (German Choc cake frosting). They are so delish!!!

  11. Caramel cake with apple pie filling and whipped cream cheese icing! I even drizzled some caramel topping on top! YUMMY!

  12. I just made one with a yellow cake ,3 eggs and lrg. can of crushed pineapple. I just took it out of the oven. I had to taste and it was wonderful. Be careful don’t bake too long. Very moist and good.
